Disposable Income Continued
Dear Readers,
I am sure you are happy I've postponed my fashion diva ranting and raving
for later pages? Yeah, me too. My temperament has to be
monitored for atomic fusion.

Baby Boomers have a LOT of disposable income. Survey responders
indicate a range of $300-$500/month disposable income to several thousand
per month. Quite a range eh? So what do we spend it on?
Dining Out - Baby Boomers average 3 - 4 dining out experiences a week.
Fast food joints rank lowest on preference. High priced luxury dining
ranked 2nd lowest. Chain store moderate priced dining ranked 3rd from
the bottom. The top ranking category is shared by local owned
restaurants, cafes, pubs, taverns and private clubs. I guess it
shouldn't surprise us that we prefer to go places where 'everybody knows
your name'.
Entertaining Guests: Baby Boomers like to have parties. We
like small intimate gatherings with wine, cheese and fondue. We also
like to host big bashes. We rarely have but sometimes enjoy theme
parties. We always spend big for entertaining guests during the Christmas
Holidays. We also think it fine and dandy to cater in luncheons and
dinners, considering this to be money well spent.
Home Decor and Remodeling: We seem to have this thing about our
homes. Even the most modest of our incomes make sure that our homes
are lovely and we spend money on our furniture, linens, window treatments,
floor coverings and bath amenities. We budget for remodeling and
updating floor plans, room additions. We set aside furnished spaces for our
grandchildren and guests. I couldn't find the numbers from the form
data regarding percentages of income spent from disposable income for home
decor and remodeling but it ranges fairly equal to overall expenditures.
We like our homes to look nice and we spend as much as we can to make sure
it continues that way.
Landscape and Gardening: Most respondents indicated they prefer to
do their own landscaping and gardening. I guess that shouldn't be
surprising as gardening ranks high in the Baby Boomer Hobbies. Even
so, many prefer to outsource this work and more than expected are downsizing
to homes with smaller outdoor maintenance. ....
