Getting the job done!

I have some admirers who think it is cool that I can work at my computer in my p.j.s and then go off to amuse myself at the mall.

I overheard a conversation between my honey and my granddaughter.  She asked him what it was that I did for my job.  His response, "Honey, your grandma's job is shopping and spending money."

Not too far off the mark but I must protest in general principal.

Earlier I mentioned discipline, goal setting and more important things about self employment.  When I left the workaday world in 1990 to be a stay at home mom to a teenager, my dreams were filled with high level telecommunications and technology consulting.  This was good for a while until I got tired of traveling and getting mutant upper respiratory viruses on airplanes.  Then came business writing, marketing and promotional products etc.  Good money but not steady income.

I built my first website in 1999.  The Telecom Trader www.telecomtrader.com is a referral network for communications contractors.  It is a subscriber based listing service with ridiculously low annual dues.  Sometimes we can pay web site bills. Thank goodness that the originating simple complex still works!  I can claim to be no more than a MgMaggee (Medium Good Middle Aged Girl Geek).   If it can't be done by Front Page it won't be done by me.  Trust me, if you can type and read directions, you can use Front Page.

So why do I keep this site?  It was my first, my passion and it has a darned good search engine presence. It doesn't earn a lot of money.  It could but I don't have web programming skills or ambition to take it to the next level.  I've seen some competitive sites at a 'next level' and they don't seem to be doing well even with their higher rates.

Next came a family web site.  This was for giggles and grins, movies, pictures of the kids and the vacation cabin.  Followed closely by webegeeks.  I don't know WHAT I was thinking with THAT one but maybe one of these days a good purpose will come to me.

Connie's Corner proved to be a nice little site for my custom gift designs (photo quilts, purses, dolls etc).  The pitfalls of producing a product on your own include 18 hours a day sitting at a sewing machine (in my case) or other production tedium. I worked for a good two years trying to find a factory or supplier for my raw goods (see The China Connection).  Tired of working for fifty cents an hour, I semi retired from the front line and began converting the website to a passive income site. More about that on another page of the same name.

Several years ago, my honey gifted me with a new website called Baby Boomer Bash.  My intent for this site was to build it as an information sharing and passive income site. See details HERE

For a couple of years now I've been asking baby boomers to send me their thoughts, opinions, musings and ranting and ravings to me about  a plethora of topics.  This comes under the category of being careful what you ask for.  It has taken a long time to categorize, consolidate and start writing summaries.

Did I mention self discipline?

I do hope you will bookmark www.babyboomerbash.org and come back and see how we grow. Don't forget to visit our sponsors!!! (see Passive Income)

Your stories  are welcome!  We'll collect them, consolidate and publish.  No real names or people are used so fear not.  We'll protect your privacy and anonymity.
